Playground for our Children

updated news and events

Thanks to the efforts of Centreville Mayor, Larry Lee and Aldermen Mr. John Moore, Mrs. Mary West, Mrs. Mary Sanders, The Late Mrs. Betty D’Aquilla and Dr. Thomas Lobrano, who  were committed to working with Community residents, the outstanding support from Wilkinson County Chancery Clerk, Mr. Thomas Tolliver who, on a very short notice, prepared a grant request for the playground and other recreation equipment for the town of Centreville, and to My Brother’s Keepers, Inc. who awarded the Grant, this playground was open on March 4, 2016.

Living in a small town presents challenges that make it difficult to pull things together.  Small towns have a substantial challenge when it comes to establishing new programs - the lack of funding. Small towns have all the challenges of a big city without the resources.  Implementing creative ideas may mean choosing between the innovations and reducing the number of employees or raising taxes. Additionally, the same people are often called upon to help put Community projects together and there are not enough of them to carry the weight and accomplish what needs to be done.  Oftentimes they get frustrated and exhausted.   Mayor Lee and the Centreville Aldermen have begun to confront this challenge with the most powerful words in governing; communication, cooperation, collaboration and participation.
