Resolution from Wilkinson County Board of Education Commending Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network

RESOLUTION
 
WHEREAS, the Wilkinson County Board of Education has determined that increasing student achievement is of the upmost importance, and

WHEREAS, the Wilkinson County Board of Education recognizes that the challenges facing the Wilkinson County School District encompasses more than just the classroom, and  

WHEREAS, the Wilkinson County Board of Education also recognizes that all stakeholders have a role in ensuring the success of our schools and that no endeavor can be successful without committed community support, and

WHEREAS, in an effort to increase student achievement, the Superintendent of Education has developed and mandated, “Operation Reading Is The Key”, a reading initiative for students in the Wilkinson County School District, and

WHEREAS, the Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network, Inc., a non-profit community based organization formed to provide the structure and leadership in support of the community through youth oriented programs and to provide the environment where tomorrow's leaders can build character, self-esteem and self-confidence; and 

WHEREAS, the Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network, Inc. demonstrates its commitment as an active participant in efforts to increase student achievement by implementing policies that require its Youth Athletes between the ages of 6 and 12 to take part in the reading initiative, and  

WHEREAS, the Superintendent of Education and other current and former Educators have agreed to serve as advisors to the Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network, Inc. to ensure that the Reading Initiative is properly implemented, and

WHEREAS, the Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network, Inc.’s, Wilkinson County Wildcats Youth Football & Cheerleader Program participants are being taught how to develop their physical and mental well-being, to build character to be better prepared for adult life, and to give back to their community by assisting in fundraising efforts for the Camp Van Dorn World War II Museum, and

WHEREAS, the Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network, Inc. is not only committed to increasing student achievement by ensuring that our youth are supprted by qualified and caring adults, but also to ensuring safety of  Youth Athletes by requiring Level-1 Tackle Certification of all Coaches and was recognized for fully adopting Heads Up Football, a comprehensive program developed by USA Football to advance player safety in the game of American football, and

WHEREAS, the Wilkinson County Board of Education holds the Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network, Inc. as a model for Leadership and Community Service;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT, I, Charlie Floyd, on behalf of the Wilkinson County Board of Education, acknowledge and commend the Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network, Inc. for its efforts and commitment to Building a Better Wilkinson County, be it further

RESOLVED, that an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Wilk-Amite Youth Action Network, Inc. as an expression of high regard by the Wilkinson County Board of Education.
